Will your Shopify store break on March 1?

Shopify stops running script tags on March 1, 2027. Apps that still add features to your store this way — chat bubbles, review stars, pop-ups, loyalty widgets, tracking — will silently stop working. Shopify doesn't give merchants a list. This free check does.

Reads only your public storefront page — no login, no app install. Only Shopify stores are checked.

What's actually changing

  1. Since October 1, 2026: apps can no longer create or update script tags.
  2. March 1, 2027: Shopify stops loading script tags on storefronts entirely. Pinning an old API version doesn't help.
  3. The fix: each app has to move to an app embed (switched on in your theme editor) or a web pixel. Many vendors will do it; some won't, especially old or abandoned apps.
  4. Custom code and abandoned apps: nobody will move these for you. Shopify's own guidance is to move the script into your theme. Shopify's guide.
